The Joyride was constructed in the ship yards on Mars and finished in 2554 CE, a year after the end of the Human-Covenant war. The ship was one of the first few ships that day to be attached to Battlegroup Kilo. It was placed under command of Captain Mariette McJones, who had seen action on New Mombasa during the First Battle of Earth in 2552 CE.
