Eliška Sokol, an illegal Czech immigrant, is found murdered as "When the Bough Breaks" begins, and yet she remains a powerful presence throughout the episode. This motivated, even driven, young woman has set in motion a chain of events which lead not only to her murder, but to the reuniting of the remnants of her family. At first it seems to Beckett and Castle that either getting mixed up with the wrong crowd, because she lost her job and had to make her rent somehow, or her abusive ex-husband, another Czech by the name of Teodor Hájek, will account for Eliška's untimely demise.
