A shadow maneuver was a technique used by the Maquis to evade Federation starships. In 2372, Commander Chakotay used the maneuver to try to locate a transporter oscillator that the Kazon had stolen from the USS Voyager in the shuttlecraft. Unfortunately for him, Chakotay was discovered by Seska, who knew how to detect shadow maneuvers, as she was a member of Chakotay's crew in the Maquis. (VOY: "Maneuvers")
