The territory of West Galicia was part of the Polish-Lithuanain Commonwealth until 1772, when the territory which now covers West and East Galicia (Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria) was annexed by the Austrian Empire.in 1816 , the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria was divided, creating West and East Galicia.between 1940 and 1941, it was occupied by the Nazi Germany during the World War II.
