Herbert Stammelford was a mage and a member of the Council of Wizards. He was also the author of Dialogues on the Nature of Magic, which was one of tomes Ciri studied in Ellander under the tutelage of Yennefer. In the short story The Last Wish, Krepp tells how "the enchanter Stammelford once moved a mountain because it obstructed the view from his tower." The mage was able to do this because he commanded a d'ao, an Earth genie.
