Podd Morethwart was the seventh mayor of Ember. He was the last mayor to be in possession of the Instructions for Egress. Before he died, Morethwart tried to open the box which contained the Instructions for Egress, which he thought might have medicine that could save him from the cough disease. However, he was only able to dent the lid, and died before he could return the box or tell anyone of its importance.
