The guards of the North Gate of Kharé describe Crolian as their "own native tongue" (S2: 483). They further assume that anyone who speaks Crolian is from Mauristatia, and it seems not unreasonable to suggest that Crolia is a tribal area or principality in that mountainous land. It is interesting to note that the authorities of Kharé employ the services of guardsmen from other parts of the Old World for the protection of their city.
