Over a hundred years it has become renowned for its shipyards. They source their wood from Blosswood Forest. Then, the wood is bent into ship hulls, held together with treenails and hemp rope, and are launched from the dockyard at the town's eastern side. It also has an important fishing industry which trades throughout all of New Canaan.
