Lane has also worked with many Star Trek licensees from 1996 onward. He began as a Star Trek fan consultant for Viacom Consumer Products, providing feedback and guidance for Star Trek computer game developers on various aspects of canon. Within a year, Lane had branched out to work with licensees across a wide range of Star Trek-related products, including trading cards, museum exhibits, and even Star Trek: The Experience in Las Vegas. Lane wrote the first menu for Quark's Bar and Restaurant at the Las Vegas Hilton. Years later, Lane provided the 2D graphic LCARS animations for Borg Invasion 4D, an attraction at Star Trek: The Experience created by Threshold in Los Angeles.
