When Blob has painted enough buildings to create enough colour energy a Transformation Engine will appear in the area. Blob can then activate it by slamming it. In de Blob hitting Transformation Engines in each level is optional however, if the player wants to be awarded with the Transformation Award at the end of the level then they must activate them all. The only one that has to be activated in the game is the one that appears after the final boss is defeated. In de Blob 2 the Transformation Engines are a lot more important as Blob has to activate each one when they appear in order to be able to progress to the next part of the level.
