Martha was a friend and co-worker of Alice Miller at Brill during World War II. She also chummed around with Fannie, during breaks and after work at Smokey's Dance Hall. She enjoyed Brill, and described working a vertical lathe as being "no tougher than a sewing machine". The night Alice died from a fall in the factory was her last night on the job. Over sixty years later it was Martha who first called the attention of the homicide department to Alice's death, which until then had been deemed an accident.
