Samayo was a lecherous ronin shugenja who was quite skilled at outrunning angry peasants, both fathers and their daughters. His former employer, Morito, passed him on to Ikoma Kiyomako, an Emerald Magistrate. In 1199 the couple investigated the slain of two samurai in the lands of Akodo Odawara, and the unrest of the peasants there. The resident monk Taizu was executed because he had persuaded a ronin group to conceal rice for the peasants, and it was the monk who told the peasants they were right to resist their lord's taxes.
