The morakos (plural: morakoi), or "shadowkiller", is a carnivorous mammalian predator native to the mountainous regions of Daros IV, an Orion colony world. It was the size of a lion and had dull black fur that melded completely with the shadows made by Daros, a bright, white sun. They used this camouflage to hide beneath overhanging rocks and ledges in wait for prey, from which they pounced onto a victim's back, pinning it with its weight. They then clawed their victim and tried to break its neck. The morakos was known for being completely silent when hunting and even while attacking.
