General Jaeger had decided to serve under Maximilian because he believed that Maximilian's power and influence were the key to restoring Jaeger's homeland, the Kingdom of Fhirald. On October 9th, 1935, Jaeger was defeated by Squad 7 at the Great Vasel Bridge. Through the Gallian Campaign, Jaeger had learned that if his kingdom was ever to be rebuilt, it would have be through the power Fhirald's own dedicated citizens, not the Empire's military might. After his defeat, Jaeger decided to leave Gallia instead of returning to Maximilian.
