The capital is a strong contender for best-named capital in the world: Edinburgh of the Seven Seas, and the scenery and wildlife is pretty cool. The islands were first occupied by the UK in the 1800s to prevent Napoleon from gaining a potential naval base. Interestingly, there was no currency on the island until the late 1940s. Until this time, the islanders would work for useful products and genuinely used potatoes as currency.
