Private Thorne was a British soldier fighting to hold Pegasus Bridge alongside Cpt. Price and Sgt. Evans. He was probably part of the reinforcements mentioned in the loading screen before the player start the level. He only appears in the level "Pegasus Day". It's entirely possible for him to die on this level.
