Independent Robots were thinking machines that did not or needed not to be synchronized with the data core of Omnius. A synchronization would erase all data, memories and experience of a robot. They were a rarity in the Synchronized Worlds. Pilots of ships such as the captain of the Dream Voyager, Seurat, for a reason were independent robots. Erasmus valued his individuality and often worried for the time that would come, when Omnius would request, showing signs of self-preservation.
