Starbase 218 was a Federation starbase administered by Starfleet. In 2369, the USS Enterprise-D took up new crewmembers here, including nurse Beck and Lieutenant Commander Nella Daren. (TNG: "Lessons" ) This starbase was only mentioned in dialogue. In the final draft script of "The Inner Light" , the Enterprise-D was en route to Starbase 218 (fka Starbase 243) when the ship encountered a Kataan probe. Fleet Admiral Gustafson had an office at this base. The reference to the starbase was cut from the episode and was only mentioned in the script. [1]
