Mavers is best known for his role as Andrew Attwood in Peak Practise between 1995 and 2000. He has also appeared in Casualty, Doctors, Where the Heart is, Chimera, Body & Soul and Ruth Rendell Mysteries. Gary's daughter Abby Mavers appeared along side her father in Peak Practise and has also appeared in Waterloo Road as Dynasty Barry. Gary's brother Lee Mavers a member of the band The La's. In 2016, Gary's character become involved in a child abuse storyline when it's revealed that Gordon sexually abused his son Aaron (Danny Miller) when he was a child.
