Gus Radcliffe was an old friend of Ken Barlow's and was a lecturer on the MA course for literature, culture and modernity that his son, Daniel Osbourne, wanted to study. Wanting to give Daniel every advantage, Ken arranged to meet Gus in the Rovers where he could chat to Daniel about the course.
