The traditional beginning of the Kings of Denmark begins with the rise of Gorm the Old in the early 10th century, from whom later rulers would trace their descent. However, much of the Jutland peninsula became unified under a single ruler as early as the 8th Century. Many of the Danish Kings at various times claimed Kingships elsewhere; in Sweden and Norway, for a brief time in England, and variously other lesser Kingships. These have been noted in the list below.
