Master Althafain of Carse, was an artificer of magic and friend of Kulgan. Kulgan did him some favors in the past and Althafain donned him a magic seeing orb with which Kulgan tested Pug's abilities. Pug was later to inherit this device and use it extensively. It was through the use of this orb that Pug found a place for the Saaur to live peacefully on Midkemia - in Ethel duath on the continent of Winyet.
