Katy Roseanna Dewar was elected to the Senate in 3148 along with her brother James. In 3162, she contested the leadership against her brother. Despite being the early frontrunner and leader on the early ballots, she narrowly lost. She had received a majority of support from the Senatorial Caucus and the Executive Committee. James Dewar's failure to give his sister a ministerial portfolio also hurt his leadership. Following her brother's resignation, Dewar ran for the leadership against Deputy Leader Sam Ingrams. She was poised to be easily elected by was shocked when she just narrowly won.
