On July 9, NHC gave a disturbance southwest of the Lesser Antilles near lake Maracaibo a high chance of development into a Tropical Storm, or a Hurricane. The next day, Tropical Storm Andrew formed from the area of disturbed weather and then moved NW towards the Yucatan. On July 13, strong Tropical Storm Andrew made landfall in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico with winds of up to 70 MPH. After passing the tip of the peninsula, Andrew went through a rapid deepening and became a Category 4 Hurricane on the 14th. Hurricane Andrew, now headed towards Texas, reached peak intensity, before weakening to a Category 2 Hurricane due to wind shear.
