Gipe was a Heavy from the 5th Squad of the Malazan 4th Army and part of the Malazan Expeditionary Force. He was a stoop-shouldered, hulking, shaggy-headed man that resembled one of the great horned cattle of the Dal Hon savannah. He was the off again on again lover of Yana in the 4th Army's 17th Squad. The couple fought and broke up after every major battle engagement only to lustily reconcile before the next.
