The European Region of the International Lesbian and Gay Association (short name: ILGA-Europe) is the European branch of ILGA, created in 1996. ILGA-Europe works for human rights and equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people at European level. This Brussels-based organisation is lobbying European institutions, primarily the European Union, the OSCE and the Council of Europe. On December 11th 2006, ILGA-Europe (along with LSVD and LBL) were successful in being granted ECOSOC consultative status with the UN .
