The United States presidential election of 1984 was the 50th quadrennial presidential election, held on Tuesday, November 6, 1984. Incumbent Henry Jackson, the Democratic nominee, defeated John Connally, the Republican nominee, in a massive landslide. Jackson won 49 out of 50 states, only the second candidate to ever do so, after his Edmund Muskie in 1968. Interestingly, Jackson was Muskie's running mate, making Jackson the only politician in American history to win 49 out of 50 states more than once.
