Metallix 2 appeared in Sonic the Comic issues 49 and 50 in the two-part story Countdown to Disaster. Robotnik had sent it to steal the Master Emerald so that he could use its power to launch the Death Egg. Metallix took possession of the Master Emerald only to be intercepted by Sonic and Knuckles, who followed the robot to the Sky Sanctuary Zone via teleporter. Metallix absorbed Chaos energy directly from the Emerald, empowering himself and gaining an advantage over Sonic and Knuckles. Knuckles was knocked unconscious, but Metallix made a critical mistake during the fight: it knocked Sonic right over to the Master Emerald.
