Mr. Gammel is a man who works at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant. He has a wife and a son named Tom. They attend Mr. Burns' company picnic, where Tom complains about missing the Little League and Mr. Burns fires Mr. Gammel. Smithers says that he'll be gone by the tug-of-war. However, he was re-hired and attended the plant get-together at the Springfield War Memorial Stadium.
