George William Harold Cabot (10 June 1897 - 18 February 1968) was an American politician, serving four terms (1941-1965) as Senator from Vermont and running for President in 1956, losing narrowly to Thomas Sullivan in a contested and ugly election. Cabot was from the liberal wing of the National Party but failed to generate significant excitement within the party for his potential Presidency, due largely to the dearth of potential candidates in the so-called Wilderness Years. Cabot founded the Cabot Foundation in 1966 to promote urban redevelopment, but died suddenly in 1968 of a stroke while building a vacation home in Florida with his wife of 50 years, Elizabeth.
