The ESP file format is used in conjunction with the ESM and BSA file formats. It is an acronym for Elder Scrolls Plugin, an example being Knights.esp, the plugin file for The Elder Scrolls IV: Knights of the Nine. These three file formats have been in use since the development of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.
