Lazio made its 6th appearance, and first since 2013, with an overall record of three wins and three defeats. The two teams had met twice before (1998, 2013), each winning once. It was the fifth time that the Coppa Italia runners-up made an appearance, and no team has won the cup as a runner-up representative.
