In 3282, she contested the deputy leadership of the party. Moir placed second in a field of five candidates. In 3287, she was elected to the position. Shortly after assuming the deputy leadership, Moir was named Minister of Defence. This portfolio greatly increased her national exposure. A highly popular member of the cabinet, Moir made a series of controversial decisions that ultimately proved successful.
