The Election of 1860 was a turning point in national history as John Bell of the Constitutional Union Party won the election and became the 16th President of the United States. After Douglas and Bell attacked Lincoln and called him a radical, Bell began to rise quickly in the south and would destroy Breckinridge there as only Texas and South Carolina voted for the Breckinridge/Lane ticket. The electoral vote would be Bell/Everett(CU) - 181 EV, Douglas/Johnson(ND)-58 EV, Lincoln/Hamlin(R)- 52 EV, Breckinridge/Lane(SD)- 12 EV.
