A redevelopment area was an area of land designated by a local authority for clearance and regeneration. Redevelopment areas were permitted under the Housing Act 1936 and were primarily used in slum clearances. In the postwar period, they were used more often for the clearance of vast swathes of land that had been destroyed by bombing.
