Koichiro Muroya (室屋 光一郎, Muroya Kōichirō, born November 4, 1980 in Osaka) is a Japanese violinist and violist. His interest in classical music began with his father taking him to a live orchestra performance. He upset his parents with his wish to pursue music when he was five since his father could barely sustain them as a middle wage salaryman. His father persevered to purchase a violin for Muroya, and he began music lessons at an early age. Muroya originally planned to keep attending basic musical education at a local high school until his instructor recommended enrolling at The Music High School attached to The Faculty of Music, Tokyo University of the Arts. He lived alone for his education and debuted when he was 16 due to recommendations from his personal acquaintances.
