John Charles Depler (January 6, 1899 – December 5, 1970) was a professional football player with the Hammond Pros of the National Football League. He later served as a player-coach with the Orange Tornadoes, and became the founder and coach of the Brooklyn Dodgers of the NFL. Prior to his professional career, Depler played college football at the University of Illinois. There he earned All-American honors in 1918, 1919 and 1920 and was a consensus pick in 1918. He helped lead Illinois to its second national championship in 1919. Depler went on to coach eight years at Columbia University.
