Mark Sistrunk was elected to Parliament in 3368 after dropping out of medical school. He was reelected three times before successfully contesting the Deputy Leadership of the party. A close ally of Hilaire Blanchard, the Prime Minister named Sistrunk to the cabinet as Minister of Defence. After Blanchard retired as leader of the Liberals, Sistrunk was elected to the post unopposed.
