A Thinking Planet was a living planet, the sentience of which Federation scientists and researchers were discussing in the late-23rd century. Among the many Thinking Planets, at least one, DD Tauri V of the DD Tauri star system, had a colony of researchers living on it in the mid-2270s. (TOS novel: The Wounded Sky)
