A young captain in command of the UNSC Light Before Dawn, Jason Mitchell proved himself early on in the war and gained command of the Light Before Dawn. He was ordered back to the inner colony world Clearwater VI in 2542 after years of fighting the Covenant. Only a few months after their recalling, Clearwater came under attack by Covenant troops and the LBD was the only ship to escape. They commited a random jump into slipspace and damaged their drive, but survived, and called for help. They landed on a very small asteroid to wait, and became involved in Incident XXX. Mitchell was an apt commander and a respected leader, but it would not save him from the terrors of the asteroid.
