Many years ago, it was shown that Mary was once a beautiful woman who was killed by the undead Scourge that infiltrated Duskwood. She was soon raised as a banshee, but still remained as her former self since she was able to escape the power of the Scourge and refused to be one of them. Consumed by depression and anger over her fate of what the Scourge had done in turning her into a monstrous being, she tore out her own eyes with her bare hands so that she would never have to see her hideous form again. After that, she threw out her precious looking glass.
