Refectory in Orthodox Church usage generally refers to the dining room in a monastery. This dining facility is also called a trapeza (Greek: literally "table," also "refectory"). Some refectories may be free-standing buildings. Alternately, a refectory is joined to an extension of the building in which the altar is placed, as in regular church buildings. An example is the trapeza at the Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra north of Moscow, Russia.
