Hindustan Motors formed Hindustan Earthmoving Equipment in Thiruvallur, India to manufacture earthmovers, initially in collaboration with Terex and Fermec, and later with Caterpillar since 1984 at the HMEED plants in Thiruvallur near Chennai and Pondicherry. The division was sold to Caterpillar in 2001, and HM quit the earthmover business.
