Daidoji Chutei was the younger son of Daidoji Tekigun, a nephew of and second in line of inheritance from the Daidoji Daimyo, Daidoji Uji. He was a young and self-admitted foolish samurai, who quested for Kotoku, the Ancestral Yari of the Daidoji family. He failed in his quest and entered into a monastery in shame.
