In the U.S. schnapps is a colorless liqueur, which is available in various flavors such as butterscotch, chocolate, licorice, peach, peppermint, and root beer as well as apple. Very close in taste and blend to a flavored vodka, schnapps can be dry or sweet but are generally sweeter and not as heavy as the traditional liqueur. In Germany, schnapps are any of a family of alcoholic beverages that are high in alcohol content and dry tasting, such as aquavit and kirsch.
