French Indochina (or simply Indochina) was a French protectorate in Southeast Asia comprised of the modern-day countries of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. It shared borders with China in the north and Burma and Thailand to the west. Formed in 1887, the colony saw Japanese occupation during World War II, and in 1946 conflict between the Vietnamese and French would see the end of Indochina by 1954.
