Asterope whose name means "starry eyes" is one of the Okeanides (the 3,000 daughters of Okeanos & Tethys). Asterope was the naiad nymph of a town called Akragas in Sikelia. Since Asterope was an Okeanid of a town it is most likely that she was the naiad of Akragas' well, spring or fountain. Asterope was loved by Zeus. Asterope would bare Zeus a son named Akragas which would become the town's namesake.
