Medieval Religion describes the different faiths that were incorporated into the Medieval era. Roman Catholicism was the overwhelmingly predominant faith of most of Medieval Europe and a source of comfort for people who were often forced to live their lives under harsh and difficult conditions. It is relevant to note, that most of the common masses of that time were illiterate and learned and practiced their Christian faith through the intercession of priests and the performance of elaborate rituals, centered on the mass and on celebrations of saint's days. Before the Printing Press, personal copies and reading of the Bible was unknown.
