The Altairians are a sapient species which inhabits the jungle planet Altair III. They are large flying insectoids, with membranous bat-like wings and fierce claws. Yet, despite this intimating appearance, they aren't particularly hostile. Their language doesn't seem to be translatable to Humans, at least not by the TARDIS circuits; however the Doctor can speak it fluently. He once helped to get rid of a Dalek invasion on Altair III, prompting the Altairians to elect him as an honorary member of their race.
