Old George is a member of the Old Ones, and the father of John Smith. In the current century, he is Frank Dawson's farm hand, and initially described as a "toothless cattleman." George assists Will Stanton, and helps provide protection from the Dark in the Church, immediately prior to Will obtaining the Sign of Stone. He again helps Will, along with the other local Old Ones], by seizing the Candles of Winter. These candles are used to complete the candle-ring in the Great Hall, from which Will obtains the Sign of Fire. During the thaw, George leaves Will to gather the Wild Hunt.
